Obituary for Jimmy William Horton

Jimmy William Horton, a lifelong resident of Hollis, Oklahoma peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with his daughters by his side. Jimmy was 78 years old when he entered into eternal rest. Jimmy was born on June 29, 1945, in Hollis, Oklahoma to parents, William Robert "Doc" Horton and Rena Estelle Horton (Kirby). He lived in Hollis until 2005, when he then moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be close to his daughters and their families. Jimmy graduated from Hollis High School in 1965. He then attended Cameron University for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Army National Guard Reserve. Jimmy then served as a full time Staff Sergeant of the 171st Field Artillery in Hollis from 1984-1988. He was honorably discharged/retired from duty in 1988 after suffering a brain aneurysm and stroke. Jimmy also served time in Harmon County as a director of the EMSA program and taught paramedic classes. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hollis, a member of the Lion's Club, a dedicated Freemason, and supported the Retired Veterans Association. Jimmy enjoyed talking, talking and talking some more, painting, and playing the drums and trumpet in his spare time. He was a proud member of the band JD’s as the drummer. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved arrowhead hunting, fishing, camping, racing cars, and traveling. He is known for his speed, spunk, and strength. He loved being on the race track/drag, and was known for his famous “SNOOPY” Car at the Altus Speedway. He enjoyed building things and welding. When he was at home relaxing, Jimmy liked watching the History Channel and sharing life lessons with his daughters and grandchildren. Spending time with his family was the thing that he looked forward to most. Jimmy both inspired and challenged those around him to be their best. He lived a life full of love, service, and giving. His kind heart, good nature, and warm spirit will never be forgotten. Welcoming Jimmy into Heaven's gates are his parents, William (Doc) and Rena Horton, and his sister, Wanda Beth Crimson. Left to cherish his everlasting memory are his beloved daughters: Tammy Streich; and Carmen Hamm and husband, James; his grandchildren: Sophie Streich and Ryan Hamm; a brother-in-law: Shawn Ford and his wife, Lolita; as well as many other family members, neighbors and his brothers in arms. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Hollis with interment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
