Obituary for Dottie Prock

Dottie Sue Prock, resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, left her earthly home to join the arms of the Lord on November 7th, 2023 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital at the age of ninety-two.

On April 1st, 1931, Garrett and Edna Nelson rejoiced at the birth of their eighth child Dottie Sue Nelson. Dottie was raised and educated in the Hollis area. After school, starting at the age of six, Dottie would come home to the family farm and pick bowles. At the age of sixteen, Dottie started working at Harmon County Memorial Hospital. Due to her already having experience in the nursing field, she was not required to go to nursing college. She took her test in Hobart, Oklahoma, and was officially an LPN Nurse. Dottie took great pride in her work, she did all sorts of jobs all over the hospital, even delivering her sister's first baby. She started teaching Nursing Aides at the Altus VoTech when it opened. In the 1980s, Dottie opened The Diet Center in Altus before selling it in the 1990s so that she could travel with her husband.  For retirement, the Prock's bought a fifth wheel and traveled all over Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas; creating many memories and making adventures wherever they went.

While preparing for a pie-baking competition, Dottie procured a jar of cherries, a hard task at the time. A young man rode in on a horse and stole the jar of cherries. This chance encounter with the Cherry Thief would be fate. This was how Dottie met her soulmate. Herman Hoyett Prock would change schools from Hollis to LaCasa so that he could spend more time with her. The two of them were married on June 30, 1948. Dottie started working as a nurse in Stillwater to pay for his education while he attended Oklahoma A&M, studying to be a civil engineer. On January 2, 1949, they welcomed their firstborn into the world, Katrina Ann was born in Hollis, Oklahoma. The three of them later welcomed Jill Dawn into the family on February 21, 1959, in Springfield, Missouri. Finally, I n 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas they welcomed their son Kevin Hoyett. The five of them lived in many different places such as New Orleans, and New Boston, before finally coming home to Altus, Oklahoma when Herman was offered a job at Altus Air Force base. Dottie stayed at Herman's side no matter where life took them. She was a loving and faithful wife until his passing in 2007. She is seeing him again at the pearly gates.

In her free time, Dottie enjoyed traveling with her family. She wanted to see God's beautiful creation as much as she could as well as create everlasting memories with her loved ones. She was also an avid reader, often with her nose in a mystery book. Dottie was a creative person, she loved quilting and painting. She had a beautiful mind that she translated into her artwork. Dottie dedicated her heart and life to the Lord and his word. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Hollis, Oklahoma. She loved her church and her community, was a loving neighbor, and was always there for those who needed it. She was always the first to lend a hand or a shoulder to her community and she will be greatly missed.
