Jimmie “Jim” Strawn
Jim was born November 17, 1939 in Monahans, Texas to G. W. and Nova Strawn. He passed away August 25, 2017 at Colonial Manor II in Hollis, Oklahoma.
Jim grew up on a farm west of Eldorado in Harmon County. He attended Eldorado schools and graduated in 1957. After high school he attended Oklahoma State University where he graduated in 1961 with a B.S. in agriculture education and a minor in animal science. Later he would finish his masters from OSU in 1992.
Jim met his wife Linda at church while teaching Ag in Carnegie. They were married August 6, 1964 at the Corinth Baptist Church, just east of where he grew up. They were married 53 years and had three children and four grandchildren.
From an early age Jim grew to love working with livestock, especially cattle. He loved being in the show ring and continued to show cattle and judge cattle shows most of his adult life. Through his years of teaching Vo-Ag he helped many young people to develop the same passion that he enjoyed.
Jim first began teaching Vo-Ag at Vinson and taught on high school level at Carnegie, Kingfisher, Clinton, and Eldorado. He finished out his teaching career at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus as an Ag instructor. Jim was a farmer/rancher while teaching at W.O.S.C. and continued to farm until his health wouldn’t allow him to work in the fields any longer. His influence helped to lead his son Greg and his grandson Ryan into the farming industry. Jim could do almost anything. He could fix or build almost anything. He worked on cars, tractors, and combines. He built and sold livestock and other trailers. He built houses and owned a lumber yard. He also was an excellent businessman, and managed several large registered Polled Hereford ranches where he was successful in the show ring and marketing of cattle.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, G.W. and Nova Strawn; and his daughter, Nicole Strawn Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of the home; sons, David of Hollis and Greg and wife Lori of Eldorado; four grandchildren, Ryan Strawn and fiance’ Kaitlyn Estes, Berritt Strawn, Lilly Strawn, and Tayler Smith.
